Gert Biesta is Professor of Public Education in the Centre for Public Education and Pedagogy at Maynooth University, Ireland, and Professor of Educational Theory and Pedagogy in the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He currently (2021) holds visiting professorships at the University of Agder, Norway (Departments of Education, Mental Health, and Arts) and the University of the Arts, Helsinki, Finland. He is co-editor of the British Educational Research Journal and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Teacher Education, and associate editor of Educational Theory. Since 2020 he is a member of the Scientific Curriculum Committee in the Netherlands, which is tasked with advising the Minister of Education about the revision of the curriculum for primary and secondary schools. He writes about the theory of education, with a special focus on education, democracy and democratisation. Recent books include: Educational Research: An Unorthodox Introduction (Bloomsbury 2020) and World Centred Education: A View for the Present (Routledge 2022).
