Jonathan Darling is Associate Professor in Human Geography at Durham University. His research focuses on the ethics and politics of forced migration, and considers how cities engage with questions of asylum and refuge. He has published widely on the politics of urban sanctuary, on refugee activism and solidarity, on the politics of hospitality, and on the ethics of working with vulnerable groups. His research has been funded by the AHRC, the ESRC, and the EU, and he is currently completing a monograph exploring the spatial and social politics of asylum accommodation and support services in the UK. He is co-editor of Encountering the City (2014, Routledge), Sanctuary Cities and Urban Struggles (2019, Manchester University Press), and Research Ethics for Human Geography (2020, Sage).
